LinkkensLightweight, comfortable and beautiful art-sneaker by Dutch brand Linkkens, featuring a print of the masterpiece De bedreigde Zwaan (The Endangered Swan), by Jan Asselijn, at the Rijksmuseum.*

The printed fabric is made of recycled ocean plastic from the Seaqual® initiative. This initiative supports the global fight against ocean pollution by selling products made from recycled plastic. By buying SEAQUAL® YARN products, you are making an active contribution to cleaning up the oceans, because for every kilo of recycled yarn, approximately 1 kilo of waste is removed from the oceans.

Local environmental alliances and other individuals collect all the trash they find in oceans, beaches and estuaries. The motto of the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE: 'We don't look for materials to recycle, we recycle the materials we find.' With this new and sustainable raw material, upcycled marine plastic, plastic waste gets a meaningful use.

Underneath this fabric is a water-repellent and breathable layer made of onMicro®, which reproduces the properties of leather in a microfiber. It is washable, lightweight, antibacterial and produced environmentally friendly.

The lining is made of the eco-friendly material onSteam®, an antibacterial microfiber, which feels like soft leather, is 100% breathable and has an absorbency of 8 times its own weight in water. Perfect as a lining for shoes. The lining is produced CO² neutral.

*Jan Asselijn (ca. 1610 - Amsterdam, Sept. 28, 1652) was a Dutch painter and draughtsman belonging to the Dutch School. His most famous painting is The threatened swan, in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for more than two centuries. An allegorical meaning is attributed to the painting, where Johan de Witt is said to be protecting Holland from the enemy, possibly William III of Orange-Nassau crown prince of the enemy England.
Asselijn's swan, defending its nest with its life, became the image for the murdered board pensioner Johan de Witt. The pictorial rhyme of the widely opened arms and wings, shown so broadly in white paint, shows a surrender in full conviction.
